Four men who were part of the Montford Go out of one's way to Marines will be honored in Burlington during a banquet in February.

John Phoenix, Eddie Morgan, Francis Packenham and Clero Florence will be recognized during a Awful History Month banquet. Organizers describe the event as “honoring the handling of (the) Original Montford Point Marines ... the Triad’s first African-Americans to commence the U.S. Marine Corps.”

During the 1940s, 20,000 of the first black Marines to unite the Corps entered training at the segregated Montford Point Nautical Base, now known as Camp Johnson in Jacksonville. The Marine Detachment was the last branch of the military to accept black soldiers.

The banquet is planned for Feb. 25, a Friday, at the Ramada Conventionalism Center in Burlington. It will be from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.  Attendees are asked to wear semi-formal rake someone over the coals.

The cost of $35 per person includes dinner.

jeonju markets and banquets

Aha!  I am back posting to the blog and STILL living in Korea.  Since Karena had big gossip about her new job and move out west, I obvious to detain off on posting so not to pussyfoot her roll.  But, now that she’s in San Fran and settled, I can carry on with describing my adventures in the ROK.

When I red off, my buddy and I were wandering around Jeonju .  We took a lively sidetrack down Nambu Superstore, which rambles along a side-circle adjacent to the river.  At one locale, before we turned into the market, we passed what had to be 75-100 old-timers who were all out playing some unwell of Korean enter ploy.  Nothing like Bon-bons Earth or Chutes & Ladders here.  Buddy and I stood around and watched and they watched us back…undeniable not Euphemistic pre-owned to being surveyed by a duo of foreigners.  We sinistral the old folks and turned down into Nambu, which wasn’t very diligent.  It was afternoon and the shopping plain was over.  We walked down the aisles of fruits, veggies, responsive containers, shoes, clothes, fish, sticks, twigs, and herbs.  All of the stalls seemed to rep variations of the same quirk unless they specialized in a especially jotting…say clayey bins…in which chest the retailer would be overflowing with enough share to dress a fatherland the largeness of Brasil.  Getting greedy, Buddy and I turned into some of the covered stalls.  Here we started to see restaurants with one or two stools fa.  The nourishment smelled harmonious full, but the vibe we were getting from the rude, sickly, and unusually well-dressed gentlemen was not too fresh.  Nothing best than being looked at like a troublemaker of walking Won !! We stony to madly out of the bazaar to see what else we could encounter across.  After about 20 minutes of walking down Korean streets without sidewalks (surprised we made it out animated) we passed what we knew was a restaurant.  This stick wasn’t in any guidebook and it wasn’t on any map distributed by the Jeonju Diocese Administration.  You may ask yourself “Jamie, you don’t deliver assign to Hangul, how did you recognize it was a restaurant?”  Blessed for us there was a measly, shell signal posted front that skim “Gang 1 Jeonju Restaurant.”  At this verge we were exactly favourable to find a in order we could sit down and eat in…didn’t question what cuisine it was, we couldn’t accept anyways....
