The worst job in Britain?
Shonk – They’ve employed 300 under age people at the end of their “training” on this scheme in the last few months in reality – in addition to existing workers, not as replacements.
You could argue that they would have employed 300 people anyway, but that’s the whole decimal point of the scheme. The people undergoing this “slave labour” or whatever hyperbole you hanker to use, are people who are long-term unemployed, or young people who have never had a job. They have very miniature going for them, and will lose every time at interviews – who is going to take an unproven themselves on over someone who has demonstrated with previous work they are a good employee? Sad as it may be, this scheme is a lifeline for those who take it critically – hence why so many jobless people do it voluntarily.
I do however think that the company should top-up their JSA permission a bit. Not necessarily by a lot, but even if they just give a £50 Tesco voucher at the end of every full-week they vocation. They make billions in profit, I’m sure they could just about increase to that.
