What are some good ideas for collecting can-goods, money, etc. for food pantries?

To my great portfolio postpositive (Im a freshman) I want to collect money and food for the food offices over a period of time like. I want to gather as much as I can. What ideas about how to get this harness? All ideas will be helpful, Thanks.

Food bank distribution tops 5M pounds
GARY | The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana set a put for food distribution in 2011 and officials there hope to build on that success this year.
The confederation distributed nearly 5.2 million pounds of food last year to more than 100 food pantries and soup kitchens in Lake and Railways redcap counties.
"It was kind of a shock," said Megan Sikes, the food bank's communication and advocacy governor.
