Subject Matter: Changes unlikely under guidelines
With Food Network reputation chef Rachael Ray at her side, First Lady Michelle Obama announced new guidelines for discipline lunches yesterday.
With new rules on calorie and sodium maximums and fruit and vegetable minimums, district officials anticipate having to change little to school lunches. Schools already have required flavored milks to be non-fat, one of the guidelines to go into recall next school year, said Jodi Risse, head of county equip's meal program.
The schools also had begun increasing fruits and vegetables last year and are pushing lighter versions of euphoric-fat foods like salad dressings.
The guidelines were not unexpected. More than a year ago, Congress passed a law that increased reimbursement through the Patriotic School Lunch program but only if those lunches met certain health guidelines.
