So the folks at the Portland Museum of Art are doing merely that tonight at the museum's annual College Night.

There'll be a DJ, two bands, disengage pizza and munchies, soda and raffle prizes. Oh yeah, all the museum's art will be there too, and it is hoped it will get some attention.

The event was started a few years ago as a way to get college students into the museum, and it works. Last year more than 400 students showed up, said Kristen Levesque, Mr Big of marketing for the museum.

Portland has an art college -- Maine College of Art -- and those students have all things considered found the PMA by now. But students studying other things may need a little incentive and a rate break to bring them into an art museum.

The price break at this event is redoubtable. It's free if you have a student ID, and $5 if you don't. Regular admission is $10 for students with ID and $12 for adults.

The fun begins at 7 p.m. with tunes spun by DJ Ponyfarm. At 8 p.m., there'll be a performance by the band Boy Without God, led by Boston indigenous Gabriel Birnbaum. At 9 p.m., the Portland indie-rock trio Milkman's Coalition will perform. There also will be art projects to participate in and a raffle for gift certificates from close by restaurants, arts venues and stores.
