OTTAWA – New Democrat Food Cover critic Malcolm Allen (Welland) is warning that funding cuts in whispers announced by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) this morning will mean major setbacks that increasingly put Canadian families at hazard.

The agency’s 2011-12 Estimates Report on Plans and Priorities outlines the superintendence’s plan to decrease funding by $21.5 million and eliminate 234 club.

“This news will only further erode Canadians’ confidence in their food safety system,” said Allen. “I strongly importune this government to reconsider these cuts and provide CFIA the resources it needs to confirm the food Canadian families are putting on their dinner table is safe.”

Liberal Agriculture and Agri-Food critic Open Valeriote also condemned plans by the Conservative government to cut hundreds of inspectors from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and lessen the agency’s funding by millions.

“The Conservative government is not only cutting 234 full-tempo CFIA food safety jobs, but $21.5 million from the food inspection budget,” said Valeriote. “There is something at bottom concerning about a government that thinks food safety is only a temporary responsibility.

I saw a documentary on CBC showing the horrors of horse butcher in Canada. Gandhi once said that a high society should be judged by how they healing their weakest. Horses are constant companions and masterminds animals. I am against all sorts of organism murder, but it’s a clear phonogram of a weaken haut monde where horses are slaughtered. But that’s a issue for another era. There are horse slaughterhouses all over Canada (horse butchery is banned in USA) and since 2005 the handful of horses slaughtered in Canada has doubled every year.
