Bread service giant Sysco will officially move out of Norton on June 22, Village Manager Michael Yunits told the board of selectmen Thursday, Jan. 26.

“The trucks will be heading out but they still own the quality and are hoping to get another business in there,” Yunits said.

When the trucks go town, the company will no longer have to pay the $100,000 in excise taxes but are still creditable for the $280,000 in property taxes.

Officials at Sysco have been looking to find another business to advantage or rent the site.

 “We value that commercial space in town,” Yunits said. “I in fact hope Sysco is successful at getting somebody in there.”

Back in May, Sysco completed the purchase of arrive in Plympton for a mammoth distribution center. The new 650,000 square-foot-structure will be located on 133 acres off of Route 44 at the Spring Road interchange.

With the move, the company plans on adding 75 employees to its line force.
