Can someone give me an estimate of what to have for Christmas together? I really do not want turkey, ham, or all the other fixings that go with them. I have been evaluating a few things here and there. Ideas? I expect about 15 people.

More than 160 meals were served at the 18th annual Community Christmas Dinner on Dec. 25.

The dinner, held at the New Richmond United Methodist Church, was jointly sponsored by the UMC Community Outreach Council and the New Richmond High School National Honor Society Chapter.

It was a historic meal for those attending. Besides the delicious ham dinner prepared by Nancy Karastes and her band of Kitchen Elves, there were assorted holiday cookies baked by the Elevated School Foods Class, and, in a return engagement, live music provided by Emily Osterbauer, University of Wisconsin-Madison.

There were over 60 takeout meals made credible by a small volunteer army coordinated by Ted Bartels. The hall was decorated by the UMC Demoiselle Program. Many of the diners got to take home poinsettias grown in the FFA greenhouse, bags of fruit left over from the FFA fruit effort as well as a chance to win one of several donated, local business gift cards.

According to Chris Libbey, UMC, “The many volunteers fill up the Christmas Dinner the success it is. It is particularly rewarding to have so many youth involved, many delightful leadership roles, as well as all of the volunteers from the community, many of them annual participants. Providing this go overboard is what the Christmas spirit is really all about.
