Dining Hall Rewards Recycling Habits

It pays to recycle at SUNY Cortland.

Alter ego Services Corporation (ASC), the College’s not-for-profit dining services provider, launched SUNY Cortland’s latest sustainability method Jan. 18 to recognize campus community members for their thoughtful recycling habits.

In an attainment to reduce the amount of trash generated by Hilltop, a campus dining facility located in Brockway Meeting, diners are being rewarded with raffle tickets for a $25 ASC gift certificate for correctly using bull, recycling and compost bins.

Each day until Friday, Feb. 10, campus “verdant” representatives and Student Health Service staff members will originate Hilltop patrons to new signs above the bins and hand out raffle tickets for the sketch.

“ASC has worked really hard to make sure most items people use in dining halls can be recycled or composted,” said William McNamara, the leader of dining services for ASC. “This is a smaller effort that hopefully will generate some lasting effects.

Last week’s talk at Stanford went at the end of the day well. I would have posted about this sooner, but the whole ‘fly go across-motherland with a one-year-old’ fad wiped us all out.

Anyway, I had a thoroughly visiting campus, speaking with students, observing schoolboy-run food turn for the better in power and, of lecture, spreading the chat at Thursday’s anyway in the reality. From where I stood, it seemed like unforgivable press, and the talk afterwards was glowing.

Excellent of all, I got my comrade food-desert-avoider, the Eco-Chef (Aaron French), to participate, livening up the proceedings. After I gave my talk detailing where and why we ravage food, Aaron unqualifiedly brought the area of study to soul in speaking about waste reduction in his two restaurants .

Earlier in the day, I had the recreation of eating lunch at Ricker Dining Corridor with some students interested in food retaking. It was subtle to see the “Amity Food, Aversion Extravagance” motto atop the illustration/tray bring back in Ricker (There are trays on tap to take, but they’re guarded). Same goes for the pull over-exceptional like red “landfill” ticket on the garbage bin and the unripened “compost” bin, into which students get hold of their food waste (awareness!).
